In My Makeup Bag

I usually don’t write about beauty products, but today, why not.

Makeup, to me, can be a lot of fun to use and I love the way it makes me feel. I also love taking my time to get ready before going to work or class, or really taking the time to just focus on getting ready before a night out. There’s something soothing about the whole process and I like to experiment with different looks. It’s a creative outlet, honestly.

Today, I’m talking about some of the stuff I have in my makeup bag, and my go to products.

I use one product on my hair everyday, and that’s this OGX Coconut Oil Serum. It makes my hair soft and keeps it from being frizzy. I have pretty dry hair, and I’m dependent on having some sort of hair serum around to keep my hair smooth. Another favorite of mine is the Tresemme Hair Serum.

I’ve been using the same moisturizer since I was 13 and have no plans of changing it anytime soon. Aveeno’s Positively Radiant moisturizer will always have a special place in my heart, and I use this everyday right after showering and since I have dry skin, I sometimes use it twice a day. If I’m feeling like I need more coverage for my face, I use a tinted moisturizer over my regular one. It’s from Aveda in the shade Sweet Tea, and is great for sensitive skin. It’s not that thick where I feel uncomfortable wearing it, but it also depends on how much you use. This is the closest I will get to foundation. I had foundation at one point but hated the way it felt on my skin and haven’t used foundation since.

My favorite blush is from MAC, and I like using either their matte line (a shade called Peaches) or their sheen line (Like Me, Love Me). I like shades of peach more than pink, and have rarely used pink blush (just a personal preference, I just feel like peach is a tad more natural for me). I’m really careful about what I put on my face, and it’s hard for me to find something that won’t make me break out in a rash (I have Eczema) or just break out in general. So usually once I find something that works for me, I will just use the same product for years on end. Finally, highlighter is also another one of my favorite products. I get mine from Tarte in Exposed. I prefer powder for both blush and highlighter, I feel like the liquid stuff would make me feel oily.

My favorite part of doing makeup is eyeshadow, and I have so many favorite products when it comes to this. Any of the Urban Decay Naked palettes are amazing, but the Naked 2 palette will always be my favorite out of all of them. Right now I’m using the Tarte Tartelette In Bloom eyeshadow palette and another, smaller Tarte palette that they unfortunately don’t sell anymore. From Stila, I have a liquid eyeshadow that I love for a night out and special occasions. It doesn’t fade or crease for hours on end.

I will always spend more on good quality makeup, especially if it’s going around my eyes because I am not about to get pink eye or irritate my contacts because of cheap makeup. Good makeup is an investment, and it is so worth it, especially for those with sensitive skin. I usually try to stay away from drugstore brands, with the exception of Maybelline and e.l.f.

For mascara, I also use Tarte as my go-to brand (do you see a pattern here?). I love Tarte because their makeup is great and it’s a cruelty-free brand, so most of my makeup is Tarte. Anyway, the mascara I use is Maneater. For eyeliner, I have the double duty kohl and marker eyeliner, again from Tarte. The only thing I didn’t love about the double duty one is that the kohl side ran out way faster than the marker side, so I’ll stick to buying those separately from now on. Another fave kohl eyeliner of mine comes from MAC, in Graphblack.

Playing around with different shades of lipstick is so fun. I definitely prefer lipstick over gloss, and most of what I have is liquid lipstick. My two ultimate favorite liquid lipsticks are the Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink line and Stila’s line of liquid lip colors.  For the Maybelline lip colors, I have Seductress and Lover, the first is more neutral and for everyday wear, the other is a brighter pink that I love for a night out or a weekend dinner. Online the colors can be misleading, so these are better to buy in store. For Stila, I have a couple of different shades: Perla, Miele Shimmer, Patina and Sheer Splendore. I love the packs of the miniature versions of the original shades, since that size seems way more reasonable.

Other honorable mentions: MAC (not in liquid form), C.O. Bigelow’s Night Balm, EOS lip balm, and Tarte’s liquid lipstick line. Urban Decay used to have their Vice liquid lipstick line, but it’s been discontinued.

Brushes: Ecotools (for eyes and tinted moisturizer), e.l.f. (highlighter), Bare Minerals (blush). I also have a beauty blender.

Perfume: Marc Jacobs, anything in the Daisy line (faves are Daisy Dream and Daisy Love).

Lip scrub from Lush (although the one I have is a holiday edition. Bubblegum is another good one).

Brow gel from e.l.f. I don’t do anything with my eyebrows, but I do use this a lot to keep my eyebrows looking smooth.

Alright, this turned out to be way longer than expected, but this is an all-comprehensive list of my favorite beauty products, and one that I highly recommend. If you made it to the end, let me know your favorite beauty products (for example, is e.l.f. mascara good? I’ve been wanting to try it).
