The button-up shirt: an iconic, timeless closet staple that you can pair with almost anything else you own. Button-up shirts just might be my favorite piece, and are my go-to top for work. You can dress them up with a skirt or dress pants, or dress them down by tucking into jeans or shorts. You can even throw a button-up over your swimsuit and ~voila~ you have a super chic look.
While I could write odes to the classic button-up shirt, I figured it would be better to show you a few different ways to style it instead. Once you figure out all the possibilities one top has to offer, you’re never going back.
The button-up shirt may seem like a weird option for summer days at first, but truly, you can wear this year round. Plus, there are plenty of lightweight options–short sleeve tops, linen, and other fabrics make it a much lighter summer piece.
Pair a short-sleeved option with a denim skirt and gold jewerly for a fun summer date night look. A basket purse adds texture.
A chambray button-up can provide some extra coverage from the sun when you’ve had your fill. Leave it open or fasten two buttons, and pair with a wide-brimmed hat.
A blue button-up with stripes adds a little extra something to your casual and comfy look and is perfect for going from shopping to dinner. Pair with white shorts for contrast and a bag with a summery feel.
Day Trip pt. 2
Pair a super lightweight button-up with colorful shorts for a fun color blocking effect.
Spending the day on your feet calls for something comfortable, and a button-up shirt with a slightly oversized fit can provide for that. Tie it up to add a fun detail. Could also double as a fun vacation look.
Working From Home
A button-up top can provide the extra motivation you need and also make you feel like a real human again after months of loungewear during quarantine. Fun accessories help brighten up the look, like a headband, bright sandals, or a colorful belt.
Spending your Saturday at the pool? A white button-up provides extra coverage from the sun and looks super cute as a cover up.
Hanging With Friends
A tied up top is a fun option for getting dinner or drinks with friends. Pair with gold jewelry to elevate a more casual look.
